Welcome to Sacred Heart School - Technology
Hi - My name is Mrs. Shipley and I am the Technology Coordinator here at Sacred Heart. This is my 10th year teaching at Sacred Heart School. I teach Kindergarten through 8th grade. Students come to my class once a week. Breaking the students into smaller groups for instruction gives the students more opportunities to have hands on the computers. Instruction utilizes Microsoft Office 2013. All the students learn to navigate and become efficient with Word, Power Point, Excel, and Publisher. Students are instructed on keyboarding using a variety of typing software packages. The students learn to create presentations, charts, graphs, movies, and more.
Let's not forget about Internet Safety. Internet Safety isn't just something that should be done at school, but should be discussed at home. Netsmartz.org is a good website to get information from. You should know where your child is going on the internet, who they are talking to, and what they are posting. The computer should be located outside the bedroom so you can monitor them. Computers are not the only place children can go to get online. Don't forget iPad's, iPod's, Xbox, and phones (social networking). You should have your child's logins and passwords. Check what they are posting on instagram, facebook, snap chat, kik and texting. It's important to know what your child is doing. Posting a picture in a gym uniform may seem harmless, but it's not. I can read the wording on the tee shirt with the school name and they list that they live in Hanover, PA. I can then Google the school address. It is our job to protect our children from predators online. Remember that your child should never use their full name or first initial and last name as a sign in for video games.
